Wanted Reviewed

19 07 2008

Wanted.. The movie’s name spells suspense. Thrill. Action. But one thing I didn’t expect was sci-fi.

It starts off with a certain Wesley Gibson (James McAvoy) googling his name and finding zero results, checking his ATM and finding that he cannot withdraw even $10. But, soon he is picked up by Fox (Angelina Jolie) and he finds out his father was one of the word’s greatest assassins.

Now Wesley is in a world of crime and told to assassinate anyone who’s name appears on a binary coded cloth produced by a loom ! He learns how to curve bullets (duh.. now how did someone not come up with that before) . He fights a person in a totally crowded train curving bullets away. Meanwhile, his opponent also shoots and the bullets collide midway and fall down ! ( Now that reminded me of the Ram vs. Ravana arrow-fight in Ramayana. I’m sure it’s a direct lift from there ).

The plot of the movie was genius, but execution was horrible. If only the director was a John Woo, this would’ve been one of the best action movies ever.

Alas. It’s just a brainwash and this is one movie I shouldn’t have wasted two hours watching on. I actually am awaiting a spoof of this movie. Hope someone makes it. And I know what it should be called. You do too !

Not Wanted.

Leaving Muscat – Harder Than Ever

19 07 2008

Muscat has been way more than just a city to me. First it was the place where I would grow into a teenager and then it saw me finish my teens and move on to not-so-greener pastures in Trichy.

I don’t think Muscat has changed much over the last years. Sure the traffic, population and the number of shopping malls have increased. But the city remains the same. Still my home. I can safely say without a shadow of a doubt it’s my home, without feeling anything for my country a few thousand miles away.

I’m supposed to leave Muscat in less than 24 hours to go back to the hell-hole the common man call Trichy, or Tiruchirappali if u belong further southward. But as I look around, it seems the whole city wants to have me here.

The trees become gloomy and look at me disappointed. They droop down as I pass them by. But I don’t have an option, do I ? The guy in the car overtaking mine looks at me sadly, even he won’t have anyone to race with for the next 5 months. This time it’s especially harder, considering I just moved into my new home. So it would be a goodbye to Muscat as well as forgetting my old home, where I had such a blast in the last 5 years.

The street lamps are dimmer than usual. They aren’t celebrating. I can see how sad they are. My bed looks at me whilst I rest, and sometimes I can hear whispers that say “Please Stay”. My television tries to show me news of terrorist activities in Tamil Nadu, and switches back to ESPN so I don’t get bored while I’m here, and in case I eventually decide to leave because it didn’t let me watch my favorite channel. I’m sure the DVD Player and DishTV receiver wouldn’t be amused..

The clothes that I pack in my bag refuse to go in properly. The bag refuses to close. It’s telling me it’s way overweight and I’ll have to come back anyways. My new kitchen displays the finest cuisines prepared by Mum, tempting me beyond no lure known to man.

Does it really have to be this hard everytime ? The place hasn’t been convincing enough to make me stay. Let’s hope it does better this time :(

The Young and The Rest (are less) at Arsenal

18 07 2008

As you may all know, the 350 million pound Emirates stadium at Arsenal had put Arsene Wenger seriously hard-on-cash, and that has forced him to say that Arsenal will have to sell one major player every year for the next 16 years to cover up for the amount spent on the stadium.

So, obviously requiring foresight, he has bought several youth players over the last years and they are giving the established names a run for their money. Arsene Wenger is a hard working manager and has produced excellent players out of the youth he has been provided. The highlight of them being him converting Thierry Henry into a striker and one of the most feared strikers ever.

Here’s a list of players 25 or under : ( Read in order :  Name (Country), Date of Birth, Position, Date of Joining Arsenal )

Ultimate Guide To Free Webspace and Domain Name – Part 1

16 07 2008

Well, we all love free stuff, no doubt about it. And many of us love blogging, no doubt about that too. I was confronted by many of my friends asking me was it possible to get a free domain and web host anywhere on the internet. And as many of you may know, the reply is a flat “No.”

But, there are ways of getting close to it. For instance check out thevoodoo.co.cc. Yep, doesn’t it look great. WordPress is installed, and I have 10 GB of webspace, and 20 GB of monthly traffic allowance. Good enough for a price of zero right ?

Well there are many reasons to why someone doesn’t want to pay for stuff like this.. for eg, people like me who aren’t wanting to waste my dad’s cash on something I cannot commit myself to.. or someone who doesn’t have a credit card, or someone who isn’t too serious about it..

Anyways, here’s a guide to setting up your free webspace of 10 GB and domain name of type http://yourdomain.co.cc, and you can have any CMS like WordPress or Joomla up and running within 15 minutes, and your own personal email id in the form of yourname@yourdomain.co.cc, and say 500 more like those, having around 6 Gb of space each and other services like calendar, documents etc, now thats like 1 Tb of webspace completely for free. Even if you want it just to upload or backup your files. Here goes.

First the webspace…

Google Apps

15 07 2008

Well I’ve set up Google Apps for my blog.. No it’s not avaialable for WordPress but I signed up for a co.cc domain name and they apparently provide CNAME control so that’s good enough.

So, welcome to www.hardik988.co.cc and now I can be emailed at admin@hardik988.co.cc !! Wow that feels nice .. LOL .. Anyways I skipped the plan of a domain name primarily because of the lack of time at college. If only I had internet in my room it would’ve been possible. But updating a website daily from the internet lab at college is a pain, and unless I update it daily I really don’t want my own domain name..

I’ll probably use this account for websites I really don’t care about. So if anyone of you want a whatever@hardik988.co.cc account, let me know :) .. There are services like google sites, calendars, docs and webpages.. lets see if i can get something out of them.. cya bubye.. tc

Hardik vs. Hardik vs. Hardik

14 07 2008

Well this is a conversation that took place inside my head couple of days back, on Allahabad railway station.. The three voices will be H1, H2 and H3 respectively.

H1 : Hmmmm.. That samosa does look yummy.
H2 : Cmon you know stuff in India, it’ll be so unhygienic.
H3 : Yeah you’ve got a point H2.
H1 : Hey back me up here wil you H2 ? Don’t you remember the food in the mess in NITT ?
H2 : But that..
H3 : Arggh.. who am I kidding. That sucked too..
H1 : There, see… Now be a sport H2..
H2 : But you ain’t gonna feel any pain when it turns out to be bad. It’s me who has intimate connections with the tummy.
H1 : But it looks so yummy..
H3 : I think he’s right H2.. Maybe you should go for it.
H1 : Listen H1, if you let me do this, I’ll let you access the right side of the brain (smirking)..
H2 : Right side of the brain ? Really ? Wow I’ve only heard of it till now. They say it’s quite empty..
H1 : You believe what they say ?
H3 : Yeah take the shot man.. You never know.. It may change your life forever..
H2 : Alright. So meet you on the right side.. ASAP.. (Shouts) Hey legs.. go walk over..
H1 : Yeah baby. Finally..

(24 hours later)
H2 : I told you.. DO NOT EAT THAT.. see what happened.. you’ve screwed my tummy..
H1 : Don’t sweat it.. Don’t complain.. You got to see the right side..
H3 : Yeah man.. And now you know how it looks..
H2 : Ohh. that’s true (Sadly) It was a dream come true.. Ahh legs.. go walk over to the bathroom again :(
